Welcome to Off the Wall. We’ve skimmed the news around the museum, and want to share the highlights with you.
Written while trying to decide which work of art I’m going to be for Halloween.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Young men, hear an old man to whom old men hearkened when he was young.” -Augustus
STONE COLD FACTS
Okay, so we’re going to keep it pretty short this week. By now you should have heard all about our incredible exhibition, Immortales: The Hall of Emperors of the Capitoline Museums, Rome. If you’re like me, you found yourself wandering around the gallery, gazing into the bearded faces, and asking yourself, “What’s this guy’s story?” The label texts are great and all but these suckers are 2,000 years old, surely their whole story doesn’t fit on an index card. I want to know moreeeee!
YOU ARE IN LUCK
We have gathered a collection of really smart people from around Oklahoma and filmed them talking about the emperors! They have the gritty, gory details that you’ve been dying to know. We’ve already released three of them, but don’t worry: there’s many more coming. We’ll be posting a video every week on social media.
WHAT WILL WE LEARN IN THESE VIDEOS?
Great question. *Gameshow music* Welcome…to speed dating with the emperors! Each video is only about two minutes, so you might have to watch it a couple times to really soak in all the information that’s crammed in there. All of the videos are different and focus on different Roman busts. We gave our speakers creative liberty to talk about whatever aspect of the emperor or empress that they thought would be most fascinating to you.
SO WHERE CAN I SEE THE VIDEOS?
REPEAT AFTER ME…
Agrippina: Not the fruit that the Piña Colada is derived from. She’s one of the colorful characters whose bust is on display at the FJJMA! She’s featured in one of the videos that’s already live, so go check it out.
Symposium: Yeah, you missed it. Or maybe you went, and you’re sad because you want to see it again. Never fear! We recorded it, and we’ll be posting it to YouTube and social media soon! Keep an eye on all of our accounts so you don’t miss it.
