TheSkimmseum: Brought to You By…

Welcome to theSkimmseum. We’ve skimmed the news around the museum, and want to share the highlights with you.

Skimm’d while feeling a little sick from the discounted Halloween candy.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I have Social Disease. I have to go out every night. If I stay home one night I start spreading rumors to my dogs.” -Andy Warhol. Don’t spread rumors to your dogs, come party with us.

A WORD FOR OUR SPONSORS

THE STORY

By now you’ve heard about the fabulous party we’re planning and calling the Silver Soirée. It’s going to be incredible: We’ll be outside on a starry night on November 13, under a huge clear tent (so you can see those stars), surrounded by space heaters and party-goers to keep us toasty. With aerialists, a raffle, live music, and entertainers, we definitely aren’t going to let you get bored. As I’m sure you know, you can’t throw a fabulous party without the help of some amazing friends. This year, our friends (aka Presenting Sponsors) are ONE University Store and Republic Bank and Trust.

BANK AND TRUST ME ON THIS ONE

Are you one of those people who loves to go local? You buy your eggs from that neighbor who has chickens in her backyard, and visit the Norman farmers market every week for your veggies? If so, you really should look into Republic Bank. They are the only bank originally chartered in Norman–which means they’re the only one not owned by an unknown entity outside of town somewhere. Being a local business means that you genuinely care about your town and its welfare–because when your town succeeds, you succeed! Republic Bank supports numerous community activities and programs with the purpose of enriching the quality of life in Norman’s schools and neighborhoods. Silver Soirée is just one of many community projects the Republic Bank is generously supporting by sharing their success! Republic Bank & Trust was established on June 30, 1988 with an original location at 3510 West Robinson. They now have two additional Norman locations at 1200 East Lindsey and 401 West Main. Along with a location in Noble, Oklahoma, at 805 N. Main Street, Republic Bank and Trust can also be found in Oklahoma City at 118th and South Western.

ONE FOR THE MONEY

What is ONE University Store, you ask? Let me take you back to Summer: 2012. The University of Oklahoma created a task force (doesn’t it sound like we’re in the CIA now?) that launched a plethora of digital initiatives–our favorite of which is the lovely “One University Store.” Basically, the ONE University goal was to transform the way students interact with technology on campus by providing them with brand new technology and awesome digital tools. Some of the initiatives help students before they even become students at OU–yeah, it’s very hipster–by implementing a tool called “OU Bound.” Long story short, this app uses technology to help students seamlessly traverse the rocky landscape between high school senioritis and college freshmanhood. Back to our favorite initiative, though, the ONE University Store is located inside the student Union, on prime real estate between Starbucks and Chick-fil-a. If you’ve never been in there, you’re really missing out on a world of entertainment. They literally want you to stop in and just play with their fun gadgets–like Google Glass, iBooks and 3D Printers, to name a few. Take a study break. Take a work break. Take a break between dropping your kids off at ballet and going to the grocery store. As their website says, “It’s a playground of technology for visitors to be inspired to innovate.” They’re open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and are closed on Sunday. If you want more information about the ONE University store, or if you want to report a UFO sighting, give them a call at (405) 325-5001.
